Module | Description |
Facilitation
101 | In this Interactive session, we will discuss and practice different methods and tools, including asking strong, inclusive questions, so that you feel confident in unpredictable conversations. Participants will learn how to prepare for, and debrief a session. This session provides tips and tricks for effective facilitation, how to foster a safe learning environment, and best practice processes for different types of meetings. |
Dialogue, Debate
& Discussion | How do you keep conversation from becoming about winning? Or turning into a classroom or lecture? We'll explore what "dialogue" means, how it can help you achieve your goals in your organization, and provide practice in learning how to maintain dialogue. |
Inclusive Language | Organizations are more effective when everyone feels that they are part of an open and inclusive space. Whether it is in the boardroom, or one-on-one with clients, you'll learn strategies for the challenge of leading with inclusive language. In this interactive session, we'll also challenge some of the ideas associated with being "PC". |
The Dimensions of Social
Identity | Effective leaders are aware of their multiple dimensions of identity and how identity affects interactions and perceptions with others. In this interactive session, we'll identify how different aspects of who we are affect our effectiveness in the workplace. We'll challenge ourselves to build comfort talking about our own social identities, and prepare to become experts in the categories of identity that affect our colleagues and clients. |
The Relationship
Model | We've all heard the phrase, "It's all about relationships." The Relationship Model is one of the foundations of the Sustained Dialogue model. In this interactive session, you will learn to analyze complex relationships using this tool's five elements of relationship. You will learn how to transform relationships, to better understand sources of conflict, and to catalyze action in your workplace and community. |
Leading Across
Generations | For the first time, there are four generations working together in the workforce. This diversity of values, experiences, knowledge, and skills brings with it tremendous opportunity as well as potential challenges. In this interactive session, participants will understand the values behind some of the behaviors for different generations, dispel myths regarding generational differences, and explore the impact of language and behavior to create more inclusive and engaged working environments. |
Why are Diversity and Inclusion
Important to Our Mission? | There is a lot of talk about diversity and inclusion. Why does it matter? How does it affect your organization's performance towards the mission and the bottom line? In this session, we'll explore the business case for diversity and inclusion. |
The Five Stages- From Dialogue
to Action | The 5 Stages are another key element of the Sustained Dialogue process, and an important framework you can use to track progress over time. In this session, you will learn the different stages, how to facilitate through each stages, with the goal of building an agenda for Stage 5. Learn how to apply this process to starting dialogue groups at work, or how to use the framework for approaching an initiative or project. |
Understanding and
Managing Conflict | How do you react to conflict? How do your colleagues? When is it appropriate to avoid conflict and when is it not? What are the approaches to identify and handle conflict effectively? In this interactive session, we will explore responses to these questions. Participants will take the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument to assess their tendencies towards five modes of managing conflict. |
Mapping Your
Community | Effective leaders must recognize current dynamics in their organization, field, sector, and community. Where is there a need for improved relationships in these spheres? Who has power? What flare-ups around social identity or power dynamics have occurred or are not being acknowledged? You will create a map that will start to build an understanding of how to use dialogue and relationships to create a more inclusive working environment, and the appropriate actions to take and alliances to make. |
Asset-Based Community
Development | Your organization has strengths and assets to leverage. ABCD is an approach that focuses on identifying and leveraging assets rather than focusing on deficiencies. From the talented people to your business and services, to your relationships in the community, this fun, interactive, and effective approach will start the process of your colleagues identifying strengths to leverage towards your mission. |
Train the
Trainer | Build the capacity of your employees through a Train the Trainer. SDCN can train your employees to deliver any of the above workshops. Train the Trainer sessions are double the time of a regular workshop. |
"Our interests,
power and background
play a vital role in our interactions, and
experiences both on a
personal and professional level; inclusive
leadership means an
understanding of others, and their characters.
It also encourages
understanding and empathy."
