SDCN Welcomes Montana State University to the Network
Wednesday, April 27, 2011
(Sustained Dialogue Campus Network)This March, Montana State University in
Bozeman, Montana joined the network with a
moderator workshop and training. The weekend
began with a faculty luncheon where the
University Provost, Leadership Institute
administration, the Honors College director,
the past University President, as well as
faculty members of a broad range of academic
departments on campus came together to learn
about the SD initiative at MSU. The moderator
training was a huge success, totaling 55
participants for the Friday workshop, and 50
for the Saturday training.
From the
training, numerous MSU specific issues arose
from discussion. Participants eagerly tackled
large on campus concerns, including the divide
between agricultural and environmentalist
professionals, the need for integration of
international students, student perceptions of
the military, concern for student aid, and the
general feeling of student apathy with their
student government. From the training, students
came out armed with the dialogue tools to
address these pressing issues and the
motivation and energy to take action. The
Sustained Dialogue team at MSU said that they
feel "lucky that not only the students, but
also the faculty have embraced the SD model so
enthusiastically." Department heads who
attended the Friday faculty luncheon were
excited to bring Sustained Dialogue techniques
to their individual departments, where they
feel there is a lack of department cohesion.
Montana State University is excited to join the
SD family!
